Biden warns that Russian nuclear attack would be an “extremely serious mistake”

US President Joe Biden has warned Russia’s use of nuclear weapons would be an “extremely serious mistake”, while Moscow says kyiv is preparing a “dirty bomb”, a claim denied by the West.

“Russia would be making a very serious mistake if it used a tactical nuclear weapon,” warned the US head of state.

A radiological bomb or “dirty bomb” consists of conventional explosives encased in radioactive materials intended to disperse through dust at the time of explosion.

“I do not guarantee at this time that it is a pretext operation. We don’t know,” Biden said.

Moscow first raised the accusations on Sunday in telephone conversations between Russian Defense Minister Sergei Choigu and his American, French, British and Turkish counterparts, referring to “possible provocations by Ukraine using a ‘dirty bomb’.”

Together, Paris, London and Washington criticized Moscow’s “false” statements on Monday.

The UN Security Council has debated Russia’s accusations that Ukraine made a “dirty bomb” behind closed doors, accusations rejected by kyiv and the West.

The debate was requested by Russia, whose ambassador, Vassili Nebenzia, sent a letter to the Security Council and the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, in which he insists on the accusations against Ukraine.

In the end, the British ambassador to the UN, James Kariuki, said that the Russian accusations about the development of ‘dirty bombs’ in Ukraine are just a new chapter in Russia’s longstanding disinformation and propaganda.

After a closed-door meeting at the Security Council to discuss the Russian accusations, the British diplomat presented some of the details of the meeting to the press, indicating that he, along with the representatives of France and the United States at the UN, “They were clear in their positions that everything is false accusations” from Moscow.

“These are false claims. Misinformation like we have seen before. No evidence has been presented. Ukraine has made it clear that it has nothing to hide and International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) inspectors are on their way,” he said. Kariuki.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people -more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.7 million to European countries-, according to the latest data from the UN, which places this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion -justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security- was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing Russia since political and economic point of view. sanctions

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,306 civilian deaths and 9,602 wounded, highlighting that these figures are far below the real ones.
