Former Trump Chief of Staff Forced to Testify on Election Interference

A judge on Wednesday ordered Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, to testify before the grand jury investigating whether the former president tried to tamper with the outcome of the 2020 Georgia state election.

Meadows, a former Republican congressman, is a key figure in the investigation. He traveled to Georgia, was with Trump on phone calls to state officials and coordinated and communicated with outside influencers.

Attorney Fani Willis opened investigations last year into actions by Trump and others to tamper with the results that gave Democrat Joe Biden victory in the state.

Meadows is just one of several Trump advisers and aides whose testimony Willis seeks.

In the text justifying the need to hear from Meadows, Willis wrote that Meadows had participated in a meeting at the White House on December 21, 2020, with Trump and others, “to discuss allegations of voter fraud and vote certification of the College Georgia Election”. and other States”.

Meadows has opposed investigations into the violent 2021 uprising and has so far managed to avoid testifying about his role and his knowledge of the former president’s actions. He turned over thousands of documents to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill, until he refused calls to testify.

Meadows then invoked the privileges and immunities Trump had granted him as White House chief of staff.

Now, Willis also wants to know the content of those privileges and immunities.
