Bolsonaro says he is losing in some areas of Brazil for electoral crimes

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, criticized the decision of the electoral authorities to deny an investigation into alleged electoral crimes that make his presidential candidacy lose votes in certain localities.

Bolsonaro, who was campaigning in the state of Minas Gerais, scheduled a last-minute press conference at the Palácio da Alvorada, in Brasilia, after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) of Brazil denied on Wednesday the request to investigate alleged crimes. use of spaces for electoral propaganda. on the radio.

“In certain places that I thought would go well and might even win, we saw that we lost. The inserts did or could have made a difference. There is no other factor that we can take into account at this time,” said the candidate. , at the official seat of the Brazilian government’s presidency, harshly criticizing the electoral authorities.

Bolsonaro and his campaign allege that dozens of radio stations stopped broadcasting their free advertising, to which all candidates are entitled, a conclusion secured by hiring two audits that investigated the case.

“[Houve] tens of thousands more insertions from the other side” that “unbalance the democratic process,” Bolsonaro stressed.

“My side was very damaged and it was not from now on,” he added.

According to the complaint, there are 154,085 ads that were not served. According to the Bolsonaro campaign, most of this alleged electoral fraud was registered in the northeast of the country, a group of nine states whose population overwhelmingly supports Lula da Silva in the presidential elections that take place on Sunday.

“We will go to the last consequences, within the four lines of the Constitution, to enforce what our audits have found,” the Brazilian president stressed at the conference.

“I repeat: the differentiation, the treatment, to the other candidate is proven”, insinuating that the presidential candidate Lula da Silva could be involved.

Minutes before this statement, the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, indicated that the evidence presented by the Bolsonaro campaign does not have “a credible documentary base, absent, therefore, any minimal indication of evidence.”

“The errors and inconsistencies presented by this small sample of eight radios are obvious,” he stressed.

The head of electoral justice also said that the Bolsonaro campaign, with these accusations, could have committed an electoral crime, “with the purpose of disrupting” the second round of the elections scheduled for Sunday.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the first round of the elections with 48.4% of the vote and Jair Bolsonaro received 43.2%, so the two candidates will have to face each other in a second round scheduled for Sunday.
