Authorities in the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula announced on Thursday that a power plant had been targeted there overnight by a drone strike, which caused no major damage.
“Today in the evening there was an attack with unmanned aerial vehicles on the Balaklava thermal power plant,” Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvojayev said on Telegram.
“The transformer suffered minimal damage. There were no casualties,” he added.

Mikhail Razvojayev clarified that “there was no threat to the electricity supply” and that “the incident does not affect the electricity supply of Sevastopol and the peninsula.”
The plant’s transformer, which caught fire, “was undergoing maintenance and was not working,” he said, adding that “plant workers quickly brought the fire under control.”
His statement comes as Ukraine continues its counteroffensive in the south of the country.
Russian forces have intensified their attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in recent weeks. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and Kyiv intends to reconquer it.
