Russia faces “great anger” from many countries if it pulls out of Ukraine’s grain export deal that expires in mid-November, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned on Thursday.
“We will do everything in our power to keep the agreement,” said Antony Blinken during a trip to Ottawa.
In particular, he argued that Russia’s decision to end this deal would be met “with deep concern” and “a lot of anger by countries around the world that benefit from Ukrainian grain.”
The UN “relatively optimistic”
On Wednesday, the head of the UN humanitarian agency, Martin Griffiths, said he was “relatively optimistic” about extending the deal allowing grain exports from Ukraine.
A second agreement, also signed on July 22, provides for the facilitation of these Russian exports but Moscow complains of not being able to sell, despite everything, its production and its fertilizers due to Western sanctions that particularly affect the financial and logistics sector. .
The system has allowed the export of nearly 9 million tons of cereals and alleviated the world food crisis caused by the war, but the uncertainties surrounding the extension of the agreement have already pushed up the prices of some products.
