Ukraine: Near Kherson, Ukrainian losses “significant but smaller than the enemy”

BFMTV reporters were able to meet the soldiers of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, a few kilometers from Kherson.

Where is the Kherson offensive? This city -the Russians’ first spoil of war- could fall in the next few days and return to the hands of the Ukrainians. Little information is leaking so far. The communication of the Ukrainian army is blocked.

Uniquely, BFMTV was able to accompany the soldiers on the way to Kherson from Kryvyi Rih. Here, the men of Captain “Némo”, as they call him, control the front line. Vitali, a soldier, is in charge of towing a Ukrainian tank.

“This tank is returning from the fighting, we have to repair it as soon as possible at home to return.” [sur le front des combats, ndlr]”, he explains.

The heavily damaged tanks show the intensity of the fighting. The soldiers go to Merulubvika. Here, a school has just been liberated by the Ukrainian army. Nemo remains very attentive when he arrives. “Okay, they are our men,” he explains after checking, indicating that the area is safe.

“We lose men, it’s very hard emotionally”

In this sector, Oleg is the sector commander. He returns to the Ukrainian advance.

“Les combats sont intenses, l’école était une base des Russes. Alors oui, je suis content qu’on récupère notre terre, mais tous les jours, on perd des hommes, c’est très dur émotionnellement”, I explained-t- The.

Captain Nemo refuses to tell us precisely how the counteroffensive is progressing. “That I can’t. I have no right to talk about our plan. Of course I have my idea, otherwise I won’t be there,” said the soldier. “We are going to take back our land town by town. Our losses are important but those of the enemy even more”.

Our trip ends in Zolota Balka, one of the last places liberated by the Ukrainian army. Across the Dnieper are the Russian positions. According to the Crusader soldiers on the spot, the city of Kherson would now be only 70 km from the Ukrainian troops.
