Former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso calls for Lula da Silva. to vote

Former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso on Thursday urged voters to vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in a video posted to social media by the progressive leader, who will run on Sunday in the second round of Brazil’s presidential elections. .

“My friends, you who have improved your life with the [plano] True and faith in Brazil, in this election there is no doubt, vote for 13, vote for Lula because he will improve your life even more,” said Fernando Henrique Cardoso in the video published by Lula da Silva, candidate of the Workers’ Party ( PT), leading a progressive front.

Lula da Silva had already received support on Monday from José Sarney, the former Brazilian president who led the country of re-democratization after the military dictatorship (1964-1985).

In an open letter, Sarney, who ruled Brazil from 1985 to 1990, stated that “the vote for Lula – who already has his place in Brazil’s history as the person who led the people to power and as responsible for two outstanding governments – is a vote for democracy, for the return to the change of power, for the quest for the welfare state. The difference is clear.”

In addition to demonstrations by leaders in Brazil, Lula da Silva also received support from the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, as Secretary General of the PS, and from the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Pedro Sanchéz, who he is head of government in Spain.

The average of the latest polls conducted in the country shows that Lula da Silva is leading the presidential race by about five points over his opponent, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is seeking reelection.

The second round of the Brazilian presidential election will take place on Sunday.
