The EU “urges Russia to reconsider the decision” to suspend the agreement on cereal exports from Ukrainian ports, vital for the world’s food supply, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
This decision “jeopardizes the main route for exporting cereals and fertilizers necessary to respond to the world food crisis caused by the war” in Ukraine, Josep Borrell insisted in his message on the social network.
Russia announced this Saturday the suspension of its participation in this agreement on exports of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports under the pretext of the attack with ‘drones’ on ships in annexed Crimea, generating international condemnation.
The grain deal, concluded in July under the aegis of the UN and Turkey, allowed the export of several million tons of grain held in Ukrainian ports since the start of the conflict in February, causing food prices to rise. .
