“President Bolsonaro will recognize it naturally,” said Rodrigo Pacheco, in the Brazilian Senate after having followed the vote count at the headquarters of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

The head of the Brazilian upper house believes “very much in a peaceful, balanced and civilized transition” in the country.

“The role of the new presidents is to reunify Brazil. Enough of hate and intolerance,” he said.

Rodrigo Pacheco also delivered a “special greeting to the elected president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the elected vice president, Geraldo Alckmin.”

“I wish both of them, in January 2023, when we will swear them in here, that they can carry out their mandates successfully, with a democratic spirit and providing the necessary solutions to the real problems of the Brazilian people,” he concluded. .

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 77, was elected president of Brazil on Sunday, with 50.90% of the vote, defeating Jair Bolsonaro (extreme right), who obtained 49.10%, when 99% were counted. .93% of the electoral sections.

Lula da Silva, who has already served two terms between 2003 and 2011, returns to the Planalto Palace.

The former trade unionist will have as vice president Geraldo Alckmin, of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), who had already been his opponent in the 2006 presidential elections, then for the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB).
