Saudi prince becomes second largest shareholder in new Twitter

Saudi billionaire prince Al Waleed bin Talal has become the second largest shareholder of the new Twitter after South African tycoon Elon Musk bought the social network.

“Dear Chief Twit friend Elon Musk, together until the end,” Al Waleed wrote on his Twitter account Friday after Musk announced his takeover of the social network.

The Saudi prince said he transferred ownership of the 34,948,975 shares he owned on Twitter to the “new Twitter”, making Al Waleed “the second largest shareholder after Elon Musk”.

In April, the Saudi rejected an offer from Musk, also CEO of Tesla, of $43 billion (about 40 billion euros) to buy the social network.

“I don’t think Elon Musk’s offering comes close to Twitter’s intrinsic value given the growth prospects,” the prince said at the time.

After becoming sole owner of Twitter, Elon Musk made the decision Friday to resign from its board of directors and leave the New York Stock Exchange, in addition to announcing a new content moderation policy.
