“The investigations are progressing day by day,” says Oleksandra Matviichuk, president of the NGO Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties, which promotes human rights in the country and winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
A guest of BFMTV on Monday, she explains that her NGO is carrying out investigations into possible war crimes perpetrated in Ukraine. “For 8 years we have been documenting all war crimes, we have seen that their number has multiplied since the invasion of February 2022,” she says.
“In total, 21,000 episodes of war crimes have been documented,” says Oleksandra Matviichuk.
“Boutcha, Izioum… The Russians have committed so many war crimes there that investigations are still ongoing,” the lawyer continues.
“This war has a genocidal character”
“The Russian authorities and Vladimir Putin say that the Ukrainian people have no right to exist, neither their language, nor their culture…” declares Oleksandra Matviichuk.
“In the occupied territories, we observe the erosion of identity: children are displaced, adopted in the Russian Federation, we must return Ukrainian history textbooks”, adds the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
“This war has a genocidal character”, launches Oleksandra Matviichuk.
“For other nations that may suffer”
According to her, what is happening in Ukraine “results from the impunity of the Russian military for ten years in Chechnya, Syria, Libya, Moldova…”.
“If Vladimir Putin is not arrested in Ukraine, he will go further,” he said.
And to conclude: “We will not forget and document the crimes also for the other nations that could suffer the atrocities of the Russians,” he concludes.
