Julie Powell, an American author whose book “Julie and Julia” was adapted into a film, died last week of a heart attack at the age of 49, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
The newspaper, which quotes her husband, said that Julie Powell died on October 26 at her home in New York state, on the east coast of the United States.
Born and raised in South Texas, Powell launched a blog in 2005 in which she described the attempts to make the recipes of the famous Californian cook and television presenter Julia Child (1912-2004), who in 1961 published “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, which, at the time, aimed to popularize French cuisine among American women.
In 2005, Powell published the book “Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen”, which sold more than a million copies and hit theater screens in 2009.
Directed by Nora Ephron, the film “Julie & Julia” was a direct adaptation of Julie Powell’s book and Julia Child’s autobiography (“My Life in France”), starring Amy Adams as Julie Powell and Meryl Streep as Julia Child.
