Russia resumes agreement on Ukrainian grain exports from the Black Sea

Russia confirmed on Wednesday that it has resumed its participation in the Black Sea grain deal, justifying the decision with Kiev’s “sufficient” guarantees to demilitarize a maritime corridor.

“Russia believes that the guarantees received so far are sufficient and is resuming implementation of the agreement,” Russia’s defense ministry said in a statement.

Russia’s confirmation comes after Turkey announced Moscow’s return to the agreement negotiated by Ankara and the UN.

Remember, Russia announced on Saturday that it would suspend its participation in the agreement allowing the export of grains from Ukraine, justifying the decision in response to alleged Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian ships in Crimea, a peninsula that was destroyed in 2014 was annexed by Moscow. .

“In light of the terrorist act of the Kiev regime with the cooperation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea Fleet and civilian ships involved in the security of the grain corridors, Russia is suspending its participation in the implementation of the export agreement. of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports,” the Russian Defense Ministry announced on the Telegram platform last weekend.

Now, from Moscow’s perspective, “sufficient” security conditions are once again met to rejoin this agreement.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said grain exports would continue “as agreed” from Wednesday afternoon.
