The United States, along with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries, have imposed sanctions on Russia for launching a military offensive in Ukraine, an independent state, more than six months ago, both of which include personal restrictions such as the ban on trade with companies or even sectors of the Russian economy.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on Feb. 24 has already resulted in more than 13 million people having fled — more than six million internally displaced persons and more than seven million to neighboring countries — according to the latest UN data, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
