Hezbollah confirmed this Wednesday, October 23, the death of Hachem Safieddine, the expected successor of Hassan Nasrallah at the head of the Lebanese Islamist movement, after the Israeli army announced that it had “eliminated” him in early October in an attack near Beirut.
In a statement, Hezbollah reported the death of the head of the pro-Iran movement’s executive council, Hachem Safieddine, “in a Zionist raid,” adding that he had been killed along with other members of the Shiite party.
Safieddine killed along with another senior Hezbollah official
On Tuesday afternoon, the Israeli military announced that it had killed him “during an attack about three weeks ago” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, along with “Ali Hussein Hazima,” a senior Hezbollah official.
Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli attack on September 27, also in the southern suburbs of Beirut. After a year of Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, sparked by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel, the war spread in September to Lebanon, where Israel is conducting ground operations, supported by airstrikes, against Hezbollah.
