Hamas is willing to cease hostilities in Gaza if Israel commits to a ceasefire, an official from the Palestinian Islamist movement at war against the IDF announced this Thursday, October 24.
Hamas “has shown itself willing to cease hostilities but Israel must commit to a ceasefire and a withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, (allow) the return of the displaced, (accept) a serious agreement for an exchange” of Israeli hostages held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners, and “authorize the entry of humanitarian aid” into the Palestinian enclave, this official said.
A hundred hostages remain in the hands of Hamas
According to him, a Hamas delegation discussed “ideas and proposals” in Cairo for the resumption of ceasefire negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Egypt’s desire to reach an agreement on the release of the hostages.
The Islamist movement still holds around a hundred hostages in the Gaza Strip. This Sunday, the head of Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, will travel to Doha “to meet with the head of the CIA, Bill Burns, and the prime minister of Qatar,” Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reported on Thursday.
