Know this: If you want to congratulate or challenge the new British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Twitter, you’ll need to reach out to @trussliss. Only if, for some reason, you wish to appeal to the much more anonymous Liz Trussell, we recommend that you write to @liztruss. A homonymy in the addresses and an inversion of the given name and the patronymic that both have already been lost. Including two prominent political Internet users, such as the guardian the observation.
“Prepare the meatballs”
With the best of intentions, the Swedish Social Democratic Prime Minister, Magdalena Andersson, sat behind her keyboard on Monday to express her faith in the Swedish-British future: “Congratulations to Liz Truss, who will serve as British Prime Minister. Sweden and Great Britain will continue their deep and wide cooperation. This is important for our citizens, our economies and our national security.”
Less smiling, Brighton Green MP Caroline Lucas burst in at the same time and especially in the same place:
“Liz Truss still doesn’t get it: Boris Johnson has failed to deliver Brexit, his countless mistakes in handling Covid have cost countless lives, and he is leaving having sullied his office. Meanwhile, she campaigned as a right-wing ideologue and it will”. govern as such, which is a disaster for all of us”.
Two messages addressed to @Liztruss… And therefore to Liz Trussel. She was amused by the Swedish kingdom’s sudden interest in her: “I can’t wait to get to your house soon! Prepare the meatballs!”
One mistake, two reactions
Where Magdalena Andersson preferred to withdraw her tweet, to post the next one more judiciously for the attention of @Trussliz, the parliamentarian took over and later stated on the same platform: “Frankly, I think she (Liz Trussell, editor’s note) would do a better job .”
The story does not say. Some are itching to find out though, like this Twittos suggesting a digital sleight of hand to take a whole different tack for British destinies.
“There has to be a way for the new prime minister to be appointed via Twitter and for the Queen to appoint Liz Trussell by accident,” Soulis Theodosiou pleads.
