The head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, warned Israel on Monday (Oct. 28) of “bitter consequences” following its attacks on military facilities in Iran on Saturday, according to the Tasnim news agency.
General Salami, head of the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, stated that Israel “failed to achieve its treacherous objectives” with these raids, which, according to the army, caused “limited damage” and four deaths among the military.
Israel’s ‘miscalculation’
Israel attacked military sites in response to the Iranian missile attack on October 1, in retaliation for the assassination of the leaders of Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, movements supported by Tehran.
The head of the Revolutionary Guard said Saturday’s Israeli attack demonstrated Israel’s “miscalculation” and “impotence” in its wars against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, two movements backed by Iran.
He warned Israel of “unimaginable bitter consequences” after its attack.
Iran highlights its “right of reply”
Iranian media downplayed the Israeli attack. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Sunday that this should be “neither exaggerated nor downplayed.”
On the same day, President Massoud Pezeshkian declared: “we do not seek war but we will defend the rights of our nation.” Iran “will give an appropriate response to the aggression of the Zionist regime,” he added.
Also on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Iran’s “right of response,” adding that Tehran had “received indications” hours before the attack.
According to the American news site Axios, Israel “sent a message to Iran” before its attack and warned it “against a response.”
