“We intend to rebuild (our relations), but also project ourselves into the coming decades”, setting “the bar very high in many areas”, explained this Sunday the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, in Sunday’s Tribune.
The Moroccan monarch received Emmanuel Macron on the tarmac of the Rabat airport, with great fanfare, to the sound of 21 cannon shots.

The two leaders then greeted the crowds on the streets of the Moroccan capital from an open-top car. Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to speak to Moroccan parliamentarians before participating in a state dinner.

Emmanuel Macron is accompanied by his wife Brigitte Macron, as well as a large delegation of nine ministers, including the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand. Business leaders (LVMH, Veolia, Orange, Transavia, TotalEnergies, etc.) also participate in the trip. Several artists, athletes and intellectuals representing the Franco-Moroccan cultural world, such as the comedian Jamel Debbouze, the writers Leïla Slimani and Edgar Morin and the actor Gérard Darmon.
Emmanuel Macron’s visit was postponed several times, while the priority given by the president to neighboring Algeria following his re-election in 2022 helped refresh relations between the two countries.
The President of the Republic finally chose to approach Morocco, where France has important economic interests, by expressing in July his support for a solution to the problem. Western Sahara “within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.”
