Kamala Harris distanced herself this Wednesday, October 30, from Joe Biden’s comments, who the day before seemed to describe Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage”, provoking protests less than a week before the US presidential elections.
“I totally disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” the Democratic candidate in the Nov. 5 election told reporters. Joe Biden “clarified his words,” he argued, before adding: “As president of the United States, I will be the president of all Americans.”
Joe Biden, widely marginalized from his vice president’s campaign, criticized on Tuesday the statements of a comedian who had compared, during a meeting with Donald Trump, the American territory of Puerto Rico to a “floating garbage island.”
“The only trash I see floating around here are his followers,” the American president said in a series of particularly confusing sentences, spoken during a campaign video call. Before specifying: “His demonization of Latinos is unacceptable.”
“He doesn’t know what he’s saying.”
Joe Biden later wrote “That’s all I wanted to say,” he insisted.
But Republicans did not waste a minute to attack the Democratic president, who dropped out of the race for the White House in the summer in favor of Kamala Harris.
Informed of Joe Biden’s statements on the stage of an election rally on Tuesday, Donald Trump recalled those of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who in 2016 had described half of Republican voters as “pathetic.”
“Trash, I think it’s worse, right?” asked the former president. Before adding: “Please forgive him, he doesn’t know what he’s saying.”
