Le Pen’s party joins left-wing motion against French government

The far right French, led by Marine Le Pen, announced on Thursday that it will support a motion of censure against the government of Emmanuel Macron tabled in an unprecedented left-wing alliance in the French National Assembly.

The left led by Insubmissive France once again resorted to the formula of the motion, before the government once again resorted to activating an article of the French constitution empowering it to force the parliamentary approval of certain laws, a procedure it used to make most of the 2023 budget.

The far-right bank, which presented its own motion on an earlier occasion, said in a statement this Thursday that it would limit itself to joining the one already on the table.

“The joint vote of a censure vote is clearly not a political alliance”clarified the National Union of Marine Le Pen.

In an interview with France 2, Le Pen returned to target the Republicans, representing the moderate right who chose to abstain in previous motions. As then, the Republicans are in the position of indirect allies of the executive branch of the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne.

The far-right leader scolded them for “wanting to support the government” in light of what she sees as majority opposition sentiment.

“We have to ask the Republican candidates: are they in the opposition or are they in Emmanuel Macron’s caucus?” said Le Pen.
