The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, called this Thursday, November 21, on the international community to “react” after the launch by Russia of a new hypersonic ballistic missile against Ukraine, which increases the “scale and brutality” of the war between both countries. This missile is capable of carrying a nuclear payload but was not equipped with it.
“The world must react. At the moment, there is no strong reaction,” lamented Volodymyr Zelensky in a message on social networks. “We must react. We must press. We must push Russia towards real peace, which is only possible by force.”
According to the Ukrainian president, this attack with medium-range ballistic missiles against Ukraine is “proof that Russia does not want peace at all.” “This is a clear and serious increase in the scale and brutality of this war,” Volodymyr Zelensky continued.
A new Russian weapon
Russian President Vladimir Putin had recently confirmed the launch of an “Orechnik” missile, a new weapon he praised for being unstoppable. This missile was not equipped with a nuclear warhead. According to him, the attack targeted the factories of the Pivdenmach group, which mainly manufactures missile components, in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
Vladimir Putin presented this launch as a response to two recent bombings carried out by Ukraine on Russian territory using Western ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles.
Volodymyr Zelensky assured on Thursday that Ukraine had “full right” to use these weapons provided by the West against Russia, which invaded his country in February 2022.
