Less than two months after Donald Trump’s inauguration, this is the last time that Joe Biden carried out the traditional pardoning of a turkey, this Monday, November 25, two days before Thanksgiving.
Every year, the American president pardons a turkey, shortly before this holiday. A tradition that dates back to 1963, when the then occupant of the White House, John F. Kennedy, pardoned a turkey for the first time, as a sign of “compassion,” declaring “we will let it grow.”
“It was the honor of my life”
During his speech on the lawn of the White House, the American president recalled that this is his last pardon, less than two months before the inauguration of his successor Donald Trump, scheduled for January 20.
“This is my last time […] “Let me tell you: this has been the honor of my life,” he said, sunglasses on.
Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving this Thursday, November 2, a nationwide holiday during which turkey is on a lot of tables. Each year, approximately 46 million turkeys are consumed in the United States to celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November.
