Has the time come for a ceasefire in Lebanon? The United States estimates this Monday, November 25, that a ceasefire agreement is “close” in Lebanon, where Israel has been carrying out an operation against the Shiite Hezbollah movement for two months.
“We believe we are at a point where we are close” to an agreement of this type, John Kirby, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said in a press conference, emphasizing that nothing has yet been achieved.
However, according to the news site Axios, an agreement has already been reached between Hezbollah and Israel.
The Elysée also waiting for an agreement
For its part, the Elysée estimated that the discussions on a ceasefire have “significantly advanced in the continuity of the efforts made by Presidents Macron and Biden since September to achieve it.”
“We continue to work in this direction with interested parties and our American partners,” continued French diplomacy, which said it hoped that Israel and Hezbollah would take advantage of “this opportunity as quickly as possible.”
For its part, the Israeli security cabinet must decide on Tuesday on a ceasefire agreement in the war against Lebanese Hezbollah, supported by Iran.
More than 3,500 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 8, 2023, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the majority since the end of September. Among the victims It includes more than 200 children. Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund) revealed this Tuesday, November 19.
