Israel carried out massive attacks on Beirut on Tuesday
Israel today intensified its air strikes in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, where it announced it had bombed “20 terrorist targets” of Hezbollah, after having asked the population to evacuate as many neighborhoods.
An attack also hit a building housing displaced people in the heart of Beirut, killing at least three people, according to Lebanese authorities.
The Israeli military claimed to have struck about 30 targets in southern Lebanon, where it carried out a ground incursion into “the Litani River region,” the geographic border north of which Israel says it wants to push back Hezbollah.
Diplomatic efforts for a truce in recent days
Diplomatic efforts have intensified in recent days in favor of a ceasefire in Lebanon. The G7 heads of diplomacy today expressed their support for “an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah”, considering that “it is time to reach a diplomatic solution” in Lebanon.
Israel “has no excuse” to reject a ceasefire, the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, also stated today. Also closely involved in the mediation efforts, the French presidency assured on Monday that the discussions had “advanced significantly.”
