A future meeting between Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would be discussed on the US side, according to CNN, while the US president will visit several Asian countries in November.
According to our colleagues, it is Trump administration officials who have mentioned this possible new meeting, although some of them are skeptical.
Donald Trump wants to see Kim Jong-un again
If the American president has expressed his desire to see Kim Jong-un again, whom he has not seen since his first term, on the part of North Korea the position seems very different.
In fact, although Donald Trump reportedly sent a letter to the North Korean leader upon his return to the White House earlier this year, no response was received, according to CNN.
Donald Trump had also publicly expressed his desire to speak with Kim Jong-Un, particularly after his meeting in August with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
The same source indicates that Kim Jong-un was open, in September, to a possible meeting with the tenant of the Oval Office, but with one condition.
“A great memory of President Trump”
“If the United States abandons its empty obsession with denuclearization and wishes to pursue peaceful coexistence with North Korea based on recognition of the facts, we have no reason not to sit at the negotiating table with the United States,” he said, adding that he had “great memories of President Trump.”
At the moment, there are no indications that a meeting between the two leaders is planned. Donald Trump’s teams are mainly focused on a meeting between the US president and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, while trade relations are very tense.
