Traditional scenes. In recent days, many cities across the United States have experienced major traffic jams during Thanksgiving. This American national holiday, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, is an opportunity in many homes to organize a family dinner.
This means that many Americans hit the road as this day approaches, causing traffic jams on the roads every year. In Los Angeles or Baltimore, for example, as shown in the images above, long queues of cars formed. Airports are also particularly busy this week in November, such as Denver, Colorado.
Nine out of ten Americans celebrate Thanksgiving
According to a survey published by the Bank investigation Center, an American research center, on November 21, nine out of ten Americans plan to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. 89% of those who plan to travel away from home will do so by car, but 69% plan a trip of less than an hour.
This festival has its origins in 1621, during a festival organized by British colonists to celebrate their first harvest. Today, Americans traditionally share a meal around a turkey.
