In a video message to COP27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that the planet “cannot afford a single shot.”
“There are still some for whom climate change is just rhetoric, marketing, but not real action. These are the ones that are preventing the implementation of climate goals,” he said.
There is no “climate policy” without “peace on Earth”
The Ukrainian president has taken direct aim at Russia, which he accuses of having diverted the world from necessary “collective action” against climate change.
“They are the ones who launch wars of aggression when the planet cannot afford a single shot because it needs collective action,” insisted the Ukrainian head of state.
“There can be no effective climate policy without peace on Earth, because nations only think about protecting themselves here and now from the threats generated in particular by Russian aggression,” he added, referring in particular to the food and energy crises linked to this war. , along with a revival of certain coal-fired power plants.
“We must stop those who, through their illegal war, are destroying the world’s ability to work together for a common goal,” he said.
