The Belgian federal prosecutor’s office, competent for terrorism, learned this Thursday night of the investigation into the knife attack that cost the life of a police officer in Brussels, said a spokesman for the prosecution.
“We have taken charge of the file because there is a suspicion of a terrorist motive, which of course will have to be confirmed or invalidated by the investigation,” said this spokesman, Eric Van Duyse. The suspect, struck by a return fire from another police officer, was arrested and hospitalized.
This man armed with a knife attacked a patrol of two police officers, hitting them.
The latter then called for reinforcements and an agent from another patrol used his firearm to “neutralize the aggressor”, according to the Belgian press agency.
