Businessman Elon Musk called on Monday to vote for the Republican Party in tomorrow’s midterm elections, arguing that the US Congress should counterbalance the Democrat-controlled White House.
“Power-sharing limits the worst excesses of both parties. That’s why I recommend voting for a Republican Congress,” Musk wrote on Twitter, the social network he recently acquired.
To independent-minded voters:
Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, which is why I recommend voting for a Republican Congress since the presidency is Democratic.

Musk’s voting advice fuels concerns among American voters who fear that Twitter’s new owner will use this social network for political purposes.
The businessman has said he believes the militants of the two parties will hardly change their vote, so his call this Monday is directed to the independents, “who are the ones who will really decide”.
In recent weeks, Musk has received praise from former Republican President Donald Trump, who hailed Musk’s purchase of Twitter, saying that this social network is now in the hands of “a sane person.”
The US midterm elections on November 8 will determine which party will control Congress for the final two years of President Joe Biden’s term, with 36 state governorships and several state referendums on action on key issues also at stake, including abortion and soft drugs.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives, where Democrats currently hold a narrow five-seat majority, and 35 seats in the Senate, where Democrats only have a majority thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris’ casting vote, are up for grabs.
The election could not only change the face of the US Congress, but also bring to power governors and local officials who fully support Donald Trump’s ideas. A very heavy defeat in this upcoming election could further complicate the scenario of a second presidential term for Joe Biden.
