Watermelons in the hands of the Ukrainian soldiers who recaptured Kherson, in the profile photos of the members of the government, caricatures… This imposing fruit has been used since Friday on social networks by the population as the executive to symbolize the victory of Kyiv over Moscow to Kherson.

Why a watermelon?
The image of the watermelon is especially related to the Kherson region, famous for producing this fruit. After the capture of this city and the region, at the very beginning of the conflict, the watermelon became one of the symbols of war and the liberation of the Russians.
Video of a Ukrainian soldier standing to attention, carrying his gun and a watermelon, went like this shared by the adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko Friday. To celebrate kyiv’s victory in Kherson, the Ukrainian Post even put up a stamp with a watermelon for sale.
Several institutions have also modified their logo by adding a watermelon, like the ukrainian parliament.
It is not the first use of this symbol.
This is not the first time the watermelon symbol has been used in the Ukrainian war. In September, the British newspaper The Telegraph he wrote that watermelons were handed out to Ukrainian soldiers in other parts of the country, such as in the Kharkiv region.
