Ukraine orders Thursday, March 13, the evacuation of eight locations near the border with the Russian region of Koursk.
“Due to the worsening of the operational situation in the region and constant bombing, it was decided today (…) proceed with the mandatory evacuation of the population of eight locations” of the Ukrainian region of Soumy, said its military administration on Facebook.

kyiv had launched an offensive in the region in August 2024, and hoped to use this territory as a coin during possible peace negotiations. But Moscow has taken care of many locations, including the city of Sudja, which was the main conquest of kyiv in this sector.
This Wednesday, the chief of Cabinet of the Russian army Valéri Guyrassimov said that “more than 86%” of the land occupied by kyiv were taken by the Russian forces in this region, or “more than 1,110 km²”.
“In the last five days, 24 locations and 259 km2 from the territory of the Koursk region have been released,” he continued.
This Thursday, Vladimir Putin went further and argued that “Ukraine control of these territories no longer exists.” The Russian president went to this sector this Wednesday for the first time that the Ukrainian troops are present there.
kyiv admitted that Russia exerts “maximum pressure” on this front and that the situation is “difficult”, in the words of the commander, in the main of the Ukrainian army Oleksandr Syrsky.
