Lavrov says kyiv “refuses to talk” to Moscow, making it “difficult to understand”

Russia considers the conditions imposed by Ukraine to negotiate peace “unrealistic” and accuses kyiv of not wanting to talk.

Speaking at the G20 summit in Indonesia, Russia’s foreign minister says Ukraine “refuses to talk” with Moscow, making it “difficult to reach an understanding”.

The Russian minister also said he had spoken briefly about the Ukraine war with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, but the German told Reuters that Lavrov merely approached him and “said a couple of sentences – that was the conversation”.

Asked what support he managed to secure at the summit, Lavrov said that “no one, except the West and its closest satellites, adhered to the sanctions against Russia,” adding that “all third world countries that spoke about the case They demanded a peaceful solution.” and that an agreement be reached as soon as possible.

The Russian foreign minister will lead the Moscow delegation to the G20 meeting following Vladimir Putin’s decision not to attend the summit.

The Kremlin blamed Putin’s absence on scheduling problems and the need to remain in Russia.

In July, Lavrov walked out of a G20 diplomacy chiefs meeting after harsh attacks on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
