The NATO Secretary General celebrated the progress made by the Ukrainian forces on Tuesday, but warned of the “mistake” that would mean “underestimating Russia” and defended the need to continue supporting Ukraine.
“We all salute the progress that the Ukrainian forces have made in recent days, in particular with the liberation of Kherson. This is due to the bravery and courage of the Ukrainian forces,” he began, referring to Jens Stoltenberg, upon his arrival at a meeting. of the defense ministers of the European Union (EU).
“At the same time, I think it is important that we do not make the mistake of underestimating Russia,” the secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization warned at the time.
Stoltenberg noted that “Russia maintains significant military capabilities, a high number of troops,” and it was already proven that “Russia is ready to suffer heavy losses” during its military aggression against Ukraine.
To underline the threat that Russia continues to pose, the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance added that it has also been possible to observe, especially in areas that were liberated by the Ukrainian army, “the brutality exercised against civilians in these territories” occupied by Russian forces.
“Therefore, we have to continue supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, at the level of capabilities, but also through training,” he defended.
