France, Germany and India support investigation into the origin of the missile that landed in Poland

The French president and the prime ministers of Germany and India defended today that careful investigations are needed into the origin of the missile explosion that killed two people in Poland on Tuesday, so as not to “jump to conclusions.”

“In such a serious matter, we have to be careful with hasty conclusions” and wait for “a careful investigation”, which is currently ongoing, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a press conference held today on the sidelines of the G20. . summit (a group that brings together the 19 largest economies in the world and the European Union), which takes place in Indonesia.

“We are obviously exchanging information from our security services to coordinate the investigation,” he said, after a meeting between the countries of the Atlantic Alliance (NATO) present in the G20.

Scholz also mentioned that one of the results of the G20 is the reinforcement of the isolation of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

“I am sure that one of the results of this summit is that the Russian president is, with his policy, almost alone in the world,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called for “necessary checks” to determine the origin of the explosion in Poland, near the border with Ukraine.

The two leaders, who today met for breakfast on the sidelines of the G20, reaffirmed their commitment to peace and discussed the consequences of the war on the energy market and food security.

The two officials stressed, according to a message released by the French presidency, that “this crisis must constitute an accelerator” for the energy transition and promised to work together and deepen bilateral ties.

Macron also expressed to Modi “France’s willingness” to collaborate with India in the face of difficulties in the agricultural market.

A missile, the origin of which is still unknown, struck Polish territory on Tuesday, killing two people and drawing unanimous condemnation from Western leaders.

Although the first indications point to the Russian manufacture of the missile, the British newspaper Financial Times advances today that it could have been fired by the Ukrainian air defense, according to information shared at a meeting of the leaders of the G7 and NATO.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, also said in Bali, after an emergency meeting, that there was preliminary information that cast doubt that the missile had been fired from Russia.

“It’s unlikely along the lines of trajectory that it was fired from Russia, but we’ll see,” Biden told reporters.

Russia has denied any responsibility for the incident.

If the missile is confirmed to have been fired by Russia, it would be the first strike against a NATO country since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
