Mexican authorities seized on Tuesday 2,000 fentanyl pills hidden, and allegedly baked, in traditional bread.
The seizure announced by the National Guard of Mexico indicates that the drug cartels try to hide the drug in packages of traditional Mexican products.
A specially trained dog alerted guards to a suspicious package at an express courier company in Culiacán, capital of the northern state of Sinaloa. The state is home to the drug cartel of the same name.
When the policemen opened the box, they found packages of corn chips and four traditional breads, and after cutting them into rolls, they discovered around 500 pastilles supposedly baked inside each one.
Mexico is the leading supplier of fake fentanyl-laced pills, which kill tens of thousands of Americans each year.
