The Vatican published on Thursday, April 10, a photo of Pope Francis, still convalescent, receiving in private audience the day before the Vatican, King Charles and Queen Camilla, apart from his state visit to Italy on Wednesday. The meeting had initially canceled due to the state of the 88 -year -old sovereign pontiff, which is recovered from double pneumonia.
“Pope Francis met his Majesties in the private, King Charles and Queen Camilla, this afternoon (Wednesday).
During this meeting, the Pope expressed his best wishes to his majesty on the occasion of his wedding anniversary, and wished in return a rapid recovery to “Charles III who suffers from cancer, the Vatican announced Wednesday night in a press release.
“His Majesties were delighted that the Pope had a pretty good health to welcome them and that he could express his best wishes in person,” said a Buckingham spokesman.
King Charles has been treated for more than a year by cancer whose nature has never been revealed. After having felt “side effects” of his treatment, the 76 -year -old monarch had been briefly hospitalized on March 27 and rested for several days, before resuming his commitments on April 1.
The convalescent Pope
As for Jorge Bergoglio, he spent more than five weeks at the Gemelli hospital in Rome to treat double pneumonia. In recovery from his return to the Vatican on March 23, he still weakens after this disease has threatened his life and has drastically reduced his activities.
Charles III, Supreme Governor of the English Church of England, would initially meet with the 88 -year -old Argentine pontiff on Tuesday, but his interview had been canceled by “mutual agreement” with the Holy See due to the Pope’s state of health, Buckingham Palace said at the end of March.
