Jay Leno hospitalized with ‘severe burns’

The American presenter and comedian Jay Leno suffered severe burns to his face in an accident with one of his cars, the American press reports Monday.

According to the website TMZ, everything happened on Saturday when one of Jay Leno’s cars caught fire in his garage in Los Angeles. “I have severe burns from a gasoline fire. I’m fine, but I need a week or two to recover,” the American television star said in an interview with Variety magazine.

The former “The Tonight Show” host was taken to the Grossman Burn Center after the incident, TMZ reported.

People magazine added that the 72-year-old comedian canceled his participation in an event in Las Vegas scheduled for last Sunday.

The presenter’s family “did not go into details, but there was a serious medical emergency that prevented Jay from traveling,” the publication wrote, citing an email sent to attendees of the event. “All we know is he is alive, our prayers tonight will be for him and his family.”

Jay Leno took over the helm of the famed talk show “The Tonight Show” from Johnny Carson in 1992 and held a traditional spot on American television for decades.

After a short and unsuccessful experience on “The Jay Leno Show”, the host continued on “The Tonight Show” until 2014, when Jimmy Fallon took over the famous talk show.

Leno also hosted “Jay Leno’s Garage” for seven seasons.
