The explosion that happened on Saturday, April 26 in an important port in southern Iran left at least 28 people dead and more than a thousand wounds, according to a new evaluation of the Iranian Red Crescent Director.

TO Powerful explosion This Saturday, April 26, around a Port Shahid Rajaï dock took place this Saturday, April 26, located more than a thousand kilometers south of Tehran, not far from the great city of Bandar Abbas.

At least 28 people died and more than a thousand were injured in this incident in the Largest Iranian commercial port.

• An evaluation that continues to increase

Quickly after the facts, the human registry began to rise. “Unfortunately, 28 people have died,” said the director of the Iranian mean, Pirhossein Koulivand in a video about the government about the government.

According to him, “20 people are in intensive care,” early Sunday afternoon. There are also more than a thousand injured. A call for blood donations was launched to help them.

Proof of the magnitude of the shock, the explosion was heard tens of kilometers. Irna’s official agency published photos that show an influx of rescuers after the disaster and a car covered with blood spots embedded in a vehicle of heavy goods.

“The crash wave was so strong that most of the port buildings were seriously damaged,” said Tasnim news agency.

In addition to significant material damage, the images taken from a helicopter give testimony of thick black smoke in the sky, which seem to indicate several beginnings of fire.

• An unquiled fire, Russia sends airplanes

“The fire is under control but it is not off,” said a state television correspondent on the scene on Sunday. Only Iranian media were allowed to take photos and videos in the sector.

Water bombers and helicopters mobilize to fight the flames, more than 24 hours after the explosion. On the ground, firefighters deployed immense fire spears.

“The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, ordered the immediate shipment of several planes that carry specialists” of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to help fight the fire, said the Russian embassy in Iran.

The authorities ordered the closure on Sunday, one day, which, however, is working in Iran, offices and schools in Bandar Abbas, a city of around 650,000 inhabitants. And this, while the smoke continues to spread around, according to a rescue official, Mehrad Hassanzadeh.

The Ministry of Health has asked residents to stay at home “up to more notification” and use masks if they should be released.

• The origin of the explosion still vague

At first, Mehrad Hassanzadeh told State Television that “the incident is due to the explosion of several containers stored in the port area.” But the disaster is probably due to a fire in a storage deposit of hazardous and chemical materials, according to a press release from local customs.

The Ministry of Defense said that “there was and currently there is no burden (…) for military fuel or for military use in the fire zone.”

The New York Times, citing an anonymous source near the guards of the Revolution (the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran), had previously stated that the explosion had been caused by sodium perchlorate, a substance that enters the composition of solid fuel for missiles.

The explosion coincided with the maintenance of crucial conversations of Oman about Tehran’s nuclear program between Iran and the United States, enemies for four decades. The thesis of a sabotage was not mentioned by the Iranian authorities for the explosion on Saturday.

Israel, who suspects that Iran wants to have nuclear weapons like other Western countries, has been involved for years in a shadow war against this jury enemy. According to American Daily Washington Post, the Hebrew state launched in 2020 a cyber attack against the port of Shahid Rajai.

Shahid Rajai is the main commercial port of Iran: 85% of the goods that pass through the country and a fifth of world oil production go through this strategic place in the Ormuz Strait.

The authorities have declared three days of mourning since Sunday in the province of Hormozgan, of which Bandar Abbas is the capital. The city also houses the main base of the Iranian Navy.
