The war in Ukraine: Russia warns that the recognition of its annexations is “imperative” for peace

Moscow reiterates its desire to maintain Crimea, Ukrainian territory attached to Russia since 2014, before any discussion for a peace agreement “without prior requirements”.

The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, was made as a condition for any negotiation with kyiv, this Monday, April 28, the recognition of the international community of the Russian annexation of Crimea and other Ukrainian regions, after the Kremlin has repeated to be ready for the discussions “without previous condition.”

“The international recognition of the membership of Crimea, Sébastapol, the Popular Republic of Donetsk, the People’s Republic of Lougansk, the Kherson region and that of Zaporijia to Russia is imperative,” said Servgueï Lavrov Media or Brazilian or Globe, according to a Russian translation of its interview transmission on Monday by its ministry.

Since he ordered his army to attack Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin has maintained maximalist conditions to reach the end of the conflict in his favor. He requests the surrender of Ukraine, his demilitarization, his resignation to join NATO and also the security of maintaining the Crimean Peninsula, annexes in 2014, and the four Ukrainian regions that Moscow attached in September 2022.

Low hand on the territories coveted by Russia

The Kremlin Judges teacher who plays in his favor, with a Ukrainian army in difficulty in the front and will displayed by US President Donald Trump, whose country was until then the main support for kyiv, to put an end as fast as hostilities, even if it means accepting an unfavorable agreement for the Ukrainians.

In this context, and despite its unacceptable requests for kyiv and its western allies, Vladimir Putin is almost daily for peace discussions. On Monday, his spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, repeated Moscow’s “will” to talk with Kyiv.

“The will of the Russian party has already been repeatedly stated, stated by the President (Putin), to begin a process of negotiations with Ukraine without previous requirements to achieve a peaceful result,” he said, cited by the press agency of the State of Tass.

This comment occurs two days after Donald Trump had doubts about the real intentions of Vladimir Putin: “Maybe (that) does not want to stop the war and accompany me,” he wrote on his social social network.

The Kremlin speech contrasts especially with the daily rhetoric of Vladimir Putin, supported by Sergei Lavrov on Monday, according to which only the defeat of Ukraine will be acceptable for Moscow.
