Donald Trump estimated on Tuesday, April 29 that Vladimir Putin wanted peace in Ukraine, a few days after expressing doubts about the intentions of his Russian counterpart. “I think he wants it,” the US president replied to an ABC journalist who asked him if he thought Vladimir Poutine wanted to end the conflict in Ukraine.
“I think his dream was to seize the whole country”, but “thanks to me, he will not,” added the Republican, who celebrated 100 days of his return to the White House on Tuesday.
He also asked me to find out if I trusted the Kremlin teacher, Donald Trump replied: “I don’t trust many people.”
“Concrete proposals”
However, the US president had expressed doubts on Saturday about the desire to Vladimir Putin to end him after new Russian strikes that made civil victims in Ukraine.
“There was no reason for Putin to shoot missiles in civil areas, cities and towns, in recent days. It makes me think that, perhaps, he does not want to stop the war and that wanders me, and then you have to do the opposite,” he wrote in his social social network.
The billionaire, who had promised to liquidate the conflict in 24 hours, asks kyiv and Moscow to conclude a peace agreement, three years after the beginning of the Russian offensive that had made tens of thousands of civil and military deaths.
Since his return to power in January, he has begun a spectacular approach with Vladimir Putin, but so far he has failed to obtain large concessions from Moscow.
“We arrive at a time when the two parties must make concrete proposals to put an end to this conflict,” said the state department spokesman Tammy Bruce, saying that he reads a message from his Marco Rubio boss on Tuesday.
“If there is no progress, we will retire as mediators in this process,” he added.
