The dean of the world is no longer Brazilian, but English. After the death of the Brazilian nun Inh Canabarro Lucas at the age of 116 and 326 days, now he is the British Ethel Caterham, 115 years and 253 days this Thursday, May 1, who takes over.
This resident of a retirement house in Surrey, in southeast of England, was born on August 21, 1909. According to a portrait of the BBC dating last year, when Ethel Caterham celebrated his 115 years, she would be the last British born under the reign of King Eduardo VII.
Two girls, three granddaughters and five great -grandchildren
Ethel Caterham was born in Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire, and grew up in a neighboring city with seven brothers and sisters. At age 18, he worked for three years in a family of soldiers in India as a girl.
In 1931, returning to England, he met his future husband, Norman Caterham. The latter joined the army and the couple, married in 1933, lived in Hong Kong and Gibraltar.
The Dean of Humanity has two daughters, now three granddaughters and five great -grandchildren died. Her husband died in 1976.

What about the secret of your longevity? “Never discuss anyone, to listen and do what I like,” replies the centenary.
“I took everything in my body, the ups and downs (…)” I traveled around the world and found myself in this beautiful house, where everyone folds in four for me and they give me everything I want, “I had entrusted to our colleagues.
