A judge of the International Criminal Court sentenced to modern slavery with a chamber employee

A 50 -year -old woman was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday, May 2 in the United Kingdom for forced labor and exploitation. He is a judge in the United Nations International Criminal Court and in the upper shelter of Uganda.

A very little sensitive judge to the issue of human rights in his personal life. A 50 -year -old woman, the United Nations Judge, was sentenced to 6 years and 4 months in prison in the United Kingdom for forced labor, the local police reports on Friday, May 2.

The 50 years must also comply with a restriction order and pay 12,160 pounds sterling (14,280 euros) to the victim as compensation, after a trial that began last February.

Lydia Mugambe used a Uganda nationality employee at home in Kidlington, in the Oxford region. This woman, whose anonymity is preserved by British justice, was to pay domestic tasks and care for the children of the house, without receiving the slightest remuneration.

An illegal visa for the United Kingdom

Lydia Mugambe was declared guilty of providing an illegal visa to her future camera employee to take it to the British territory, breaking the immigration law.

The Visa indicated that the Ugandes recruited would work as a servant for the former Uganda Deputy Commissioner John Mugerwa, but stipulated that it would be paid, that it was not the case.

According to the survey, the fifties paid the flight so that their future servant operated before recovering it to the airport to take it home.

“There is no remorse”

J. David Fxton emphasized, when prayer was pronounced, that Lydia Mugambe had “absolutely remorse” about the accused facts. Worse, he even made sure he has always treated his servant carefully and tried to “blame” the victim for what had happened.

The judge deplored a “very sad” issue regarding a woman whose work as a judge is commendable, according to him, in defense of human rights.

According to prosecutor Caroline Haughey, Lydia Mugambe lied and also took advantage of the ignorance of the labor law of the recruited Ugandes, while taking advantage of her social status.

“Modern slavery is a underestimated crime”

The victim, who was not present, said in a letter, read in the Court, having lived in the UN Judge in an “almost constant fear”, a figure in Uganda being Lydia. From now on, the former domestic says he cannot return to his country for fear of what could happen to him.

“Modern slavery is a crime under decade and I hope that the victim’s courage in this case encourages other victims of modern slavery to present themselves,” police superintendent said Ben Clark.

For its part, the University of Oxford, where the judge was preparing a doctorate in the law, in addition to his work, said he was “dismayed” in this case.
