“Neither the United States nor Russia will attempt to use nuclear weapons,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, referring to the meeting of representatives of the two countries’ intelligence services in Ankara.
“According to the information I received from my director of the secret services regarding the United States and Russia, neither party will be tempted to use nuclear weapons,” Erdogan was quoted as saying by the official Turkish news agency on Thursday. Anadolu.
The Turkish head of state confirmed that CIA director William Burns (US intelligence services) and his Russian counterpart Serguei Narychkine (FSB) were in the Turkish capital earlier this week.
At the meeting, Burns warned the head of Russia’s secret services of the consequences of using nuclear weapons, as Washington had earlier claimed that Russia had threatened to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Earlier, the White House had also stated that the Ankara meeting was “not a negotiation of any kind” or “a discussion of an agreement on the war in Ukraine.”
