The three -day truce with Ukraine, unilaterally ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the commemorations of the victory against Nazi Germany on May 9, entered into force this Thursday, May 8.
“El Alto el Fuego (…) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the great victory,” said Russian news agency Ria Novosti.
Ukraine has never accepted this truce and described it as a communication operation, which asks for a high 30 -day fire.
A facade truce?
On Wednesday night it was Thursday was relatively quiet. The Ukraine Air Force has repeatedly indicated guided air pumps launched by Russian airplanes on Soumy, in the northeast, without knowing the impact.
Nijni Novgorod airport, a city at 400 km from Moscow, was closed for more than an hour, said Artem Korenyako, representative of the National Aviation Agency Rossaviatsia.
A few hours before the entry into force of the truce decreed by Vladimir Putin at 9 pm, Russia and Ukraine had exchanged air attacks, with missiles and dozens of drones that lead to the closure of airports on the Russian side and making at least two dead on the Ukrainian side.
The Kremlin said that the Russian forces would respect the high fire but would respond “immediately” if kyiv attack.
In his speech on Wednesday night, President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his call to a 30 -day truce. “We are not withdrawing this proposal that could give diplomacy a chance. But the world does not see a response from Russia,” he said.
Vladimir Putin announced the truce on April 28 in a “humanitarian” gesture, after pressures from the United States so that Russia ends the assault he has been carrying out since 2022 against Ukraine.
Since its inauguration in January, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been trying to negotiate a high sustainable fire between Moscow and kyiv. But he could not obtain large Kremlin concessions.
