The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, attacked since November for an investigation for “alleged failure”, temporarily left his duties, said his office this Friday, May 16.
“The prosecutor expressed his decision to withdraw until the end of the procedure” conducted by UN investigators, said the prosecutor’s office in a statement, several media reported an inappropriate sexual behavior against him. Karim Khan denied the accusations.
“The attached prosecutors will be responsible for administering the prosecutor during his absence,” added his office.
Accused of inappropriate sexual behavior
The CPI surveillance agency announced in November that he had requested an external investigation into accusations of “alleged failure” of the Attorney General, without giving more details.
The British arrived at the headlines in May when he asked the ICC to issue arrest mandates against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and three senior Hamas officials.
According to several media, the IPC Attorney General has been accused of inappropriate sexual behavior towards a member of his staff, the suggestions he declared unfounded.
The CPI, whose siege is in The Hague, investigates and pursues genocides, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The jurisdiction faces many criticisms and is even under the coup of US sanctions.
