Bucharest Nicusor Dan’s mayor of Bucharest’s Proeuropean comes out at the top of the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday in Romania, according to the surveys conducted at the exit of the polls, after a vote marked by a strong participation in a tense climate.
At the close of the electoral schools at 9:00 pm (6:00 pm GMT), the centrist candidate is attributed more than 54% of the votes, against 45% for the leader of the Nationalist Party Aur George Simion.
The publication of these figures was welcome in confusion, the two candidates claim victory.
A participation rate close to 65%
At Nicusor Dan’s headquarters, installed in a park in Bucharest, the year of 50 years praised all the smiles “the victory of a community of Romanians anxious for a deep change.”
“We know tonight and tomorrow, let’s rebuild Romania,” he added before his followers sing “Europe” and “Unit.”
At the same time, his rival, speaking before Parliament, was proclaimed “the new president of Romania”, with the votes of the important diaspora to win and denounce “fraud.”
Simion, a fervent sovereign admirer of Donald Trump, had largely dominated the first round on May 4 with almost 41% of the votes, duplicate his opponent.
But many Romanians have mobilized meanwhile to overthrow the situation of a vote presented as crucial for the European future of this neighboring country of Ukraine, five months after the rare cancellation of a contaminated vote with suspicion of Russian interference.
The participation rate amounted to almost 65%, against only 53% in the first round.
