Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau asked the prefects to “harden security in symbolic places and communicate with representatives of the Jewish community,” he learned about the minister’s entourage this Thursday, May 22.
This decision to strengthen security is taken after Washington murder of two members of the Israeli embassy in Washington on Wednesday night, near the Jewish museum in the US capital.

Early in the morning, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barot, denounced an “hateful act of anti-Semitic barbarism”, in a message posted in X.
“Nothing can justify such violence. My thoughts go with their loved ones, their colleagues and the state of Israel,” he wrote.
Emmanuel Macron also reacted to this attack in a message posted in X. “To the president [israélien]Isaac Herzog, formulated our thoughts for families and relatives of the victims, “he said.
