A new act of degradation in the eternal city. A 24 -year -old German tourist was arrested this Thursday, May 22 for transporting a piece of old column in an electric rental scooter, reports the RAI.
The vestige, an “old marble column” that weighed around 30 kg, was considered a “cultural good of historical and artistic interest” by the special superintendence for the archaeological goods of Rome, specifies a press release from Carabini.
“The Carabinieri denounced the 24 -year -old in the Prosecutor’s Office and confiscated the marble base, which will be subject to additional investigations to track their place of origin,” concluded the police statement.
The archaeological treasures of the city of Rome are regularly victims of incivility of foreign citizens. In recent years, tourists have been arrested by messages recorded on the walls of the coliseum, they filled their pumpkin at the Trevi source or by car the legendary staircase in the place of Espagne.
