Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a trilateral meeting with his American counterparts Donald Trump and the Russian Vladimir Putin to advance peace discussions about the war in Ukraine, while calling Washington to impose new sanctions against Moscow.
“We are ready in Trump-Poutine-Moi format,” said Ukrainian President on a press conference Tuesday under an embargo until Wednesday morning. “If Putin does not feel comfortable with a bilateral meeting, or if everyone wants a trilateral meeting, I don’t care. I’m ready for any format,” he added.
“We expect sanctions from the United States”, especially against “the Russian energy sector and the banking system,” Moscow has not yet accepted the proposal of a high fire, continuing Volodmyr Zelensky.
Negotiations at a dead point, Kyiv wants “sanctions”
The Ukrainian president has also urged Washington to impose new sanctions against Russia, which has so far rejected the idea of a high general and unconditional fire of 30 days with Ukraine, proposed by the United States and supported by kyiv.
“We expect sanctions from the United States,” especially against “the Russian energy sector and the banking system,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
He said that kyiv had not received from Moscow the “memorandum” mentioned last week by Russia and was supposed to exhibit Russian conditions for a lasting peace agreement, after three years of Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
“We will read their proposals and we will certainly respond” once they have been received, “said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Previously, Russian diplomacy said it would transmit this document to kyiv once the vast exchange of prisoners ended last weekend.
President Zelensky also said that Moscow massaged more than 50,000 soldiers near the Ukrainian region of Soumy (Northeast), for a possible offensive against this border territory where Moscow says he wants to create “a damping zone” to avoid kyiv’s incursions. Russia wants to “repel our troops from (its) Koursk region” located in front of the border “, and prepare an offensive in Souumy’s,” he said.
